So buying car audio from online auction sites? Not something I have ever done but certainly something I have heard horror stories about. ‘Flicking’ through the listings there are some decent deals to be had ( and some real tat) but I’m just not sure I would buy electrical items from an auction site. Yes the sellers have there precious ratings to think about but stories of ‘oh it worked when I sent it to you’ seem all to common place.

Here we have a few images of a fairly recent door build we completed in a Mondeo (plus a good excuse to try out this image viewer). To view the full text just scroll over the teaser on each image. Images where taken on a camera phone which was not handy when the door builds were trimmed and fitted back onto the door cards, so no images i’m afraid.
Only real thing we would change are the tweeter locations, probably to some kind of mirror cap build. But time simply didn’t allow this.
There are plenty of statistics online showing an increase in the theft of small electrical items including portable Sat Nav units. You will find 95% of these statistics on Insurance websites (ok so I made that up) but are these scaremongers’ tactics or just realists?
Some forms of insurance are required by law so that’s any easy choice for most of us. However something like sat nav insurance is a purely personal choice. Read the rest of this entry �
The past 48 hours have seen the site flagged by Google as containing Badware. This problem has now been resolved and fixed. Basically a security flaw in older versions of Wordpress had been exploited.
The moral of the story is to keep your Wordpress updated and patched. I would advise anyone using wp to upgrade to version 2.3.3 ASAP.

So if you want to use your phone whilst driving you are going to need some kind of hands free car phone kit. Initially this would mean having a huge cradle and speaker mounted in the vehicle. Things have moved on and now you could almost say some phone kits add to the aesthetics and appeal of your car with their high res colour displays. The use of Bluetooth and audio muting interfaces allow for smooth integration into your existing car audio.

New year, new units, and with that new part numbers. For example the Sony MEX-BT5000 is now the MEX-BT5100 and the Sony CDX-GT410U is now the CDX-GT420U. So what apart from the part number is new? Well in most cases not much!
Well as is normal with car audio we are starting to see the new 2008 units on the shelves. A few of the lower end units were appearing late in 2007 but over the next few months we will see the introduction of the remaining units from all the car audio manufactures.

Normally we would be the last to use the C word quite so early on in the year but seeing as almost all retail stores are now geared up for the big day then it might be time to start planning. So regardless of what the Christmas message should be, it really comes down to someone you know is expecting a box under the tree with their name on it. So what are you going to get them?
After the release of new ranges from the majority of car audio manufactures earlier this year it seems some new models are now coming down in price. A perfect example of this is the entry level Kenwood KDC-237SG.

If you have ever installed your own car radio you have probably used an Autoleads installation adaptor at some point. Autoleads basically sell everything you need to install and integrate your new car radio into your vehicle. Their website used to contain a database where you could select which adaptors you would require for your vehicle. You can still download the whole application list but we decided to try and make things a bit simpler.
There was a time when tape was your only option when it came to car audio, then along came the CD. There was a small amount of excitement when the mini disc came along, but not enough for the format to be support for more than a few years (In the car audio scene at least) Now however you are completely stuck for choice when it comes to selecting your chosen playback format. Even when you do decide on a format you then have to decide how you are going to store and play that format.
The latest single DIN car audio head unit offering DVD playback is due to arrive in stores any day now. The Pioneer DVH-P5900MP joins what is now becoming a crowded market sector with all the leading manufactures already offering units for 2007. So it could well be a tough time for the new Pioneer unit, but it does have some strong features which may lift it above the competition.
Want to get involved in the car audio industry? As with many jobs it’s all about getting your foot in the door and gaining some experience. This year we see the release of the Alpine IDA-X001, a high spec full on iPod unit with no built in CD player. This is a massive step forward for car audio but also a massive step away from what we have all considered the norm.
